Dancing on thin ice?

It is a well known fact that figure skaters Torvill and Dean are something of a legend in Britain however can the same still be said for the itv one prime time show Dancing on Ice?

The TV show that has proven popular dependant on the line up has allowed greater coverage for the sport of figure skating and increased accessibility of the sport tenfold in a country that traditional this country is rubbish at!

The lineup of this show is important to gain ratings success however this years crop had trouble gaining event d list celebrity status! The star of the show, blonde Barbie Pamela Anderson, was voted out on week one and since then celebrities have been competing for a reinvention in fame rather than just the dancing on ice crown!

The stars of the show are retired gymnast Beth Tweddle who's leg extensions are divine but that is about all with the personality of a floorboard! Then there's Keith Chegwin - the cross between an excitable puppy and a chipmunk. However with his departure on Sunday night this weeks show is set to be even less entertaining.

However the star of the show had to be Joe Pasquale! With more stumbles and falls then a drunk 18 year old at a nightclub he gets the prize for most entertaining. His grace and balance leave little to be desired as he looks like a toddler taking his first steps! However all the criticism is wiped away with the sheer hilarity of his performances!

Torvill and Dean however are the cream of the crop (as they are every year!) and without them the show would simply not have the same sparkle! Their innovative and seamless performances highlight the sport of figure skating in a way that makes you want to head on down to your local ice rink! With their performances constantly pushing the boundaries of their capabilities there is little doubt that without them this show wouldn't be a success.

In a world where figure skating is a sport In decline could dancing on ice prove to be a saviour?

However will a decline in the ratings be enough to alienate the two things that make it great? Or do you think it still provides a little bit of winter sparkle to a dreary Sunday evening?
