Athletics after Pistorius!

Athletics as a sport is renowned for uniting a country and allowing us to be inspired by sports events. The London 2012 Olympics was a showcase of both new and old talent and a spectacle with new world records being achieved and the fastest men's 100m final in history. It is moments like these which allow us to recognise sports on an international level. However with the Oscar Pistorius case still at the forefront of every sports fans mind what does this lend to the reputation of a sport that was so celebrated just a few months ago?

For those of you that don't know Oscar was the first paralympian to compete with fully able athletes in London 2012! His use of blades instead of legs were at the height of controversy during the mega event. However it is not his racing abilities that are now questioned but his motives as he is targeted as prime suspect in the murder investigation of his girlfriend.

Undergoing trial where he admitted to firing 3 shots into his bathroom in defence it could be argued that he has severely tarnished the reputation on athletics? However there are some parts on the story that do not add up! much so the lead detective on the case was called upon to clear his own name! Over the past week there has been mass speculation as to the outcome of his trial but with his bail having been granted to the grand sum of £20,000 there is a lot to be said for the integrity and credibility of this trial. No man on trial for premeditated murder having admitted to the firing of 3 shots into the bathroom where his girlfriend was standing should be granted bail! it seems a bit ludicrous! Goes to show that sometimes money really is everything!

With the trial to be held to the start of June it seems that Oscar Pistorious is off the hook for many months to come yet... In which case there may well be new information to postpone his deserved punishment further. One things certain his role as a leading ambasseder in the sports world will no be non existent!

Have your say! Guilty or not guilty? What do you think this means or the future of athletics???
