A Happy End?!
At the
preview of week seven we asked ourselves if Austria will finally win their
first gold medal of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming,
Austria. Although these championships have been disappointing for the Austrians,
they still had a happy end, as they have won a medal in the Team Event on
Tuesday and another gold medal through Marcel Hirscher today. With two gold,
two silver and four bronze medals Austria has won the most medals of all teams
and finds itself on the second place of the medal count. Only the American team
with fabulous Ted Ligety (3 gold) and the surprising teenager Mikaela Shiffrin
(1 gold) have done better in these championships:

All in all FIS
Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 have been an amazing sport event with a
great host nation. Over the 10 racing days more than 290,000 spectators have
supported not only their home team but all athletes creating a unique
experience for all participants. Thank you Austria!
Norway,
Norway and again Norway!! Out of 11 possible gold medals at the IBU World Championships Biathlon 2013, Norway has won 8 gold medals mainly by Emil Hegle Svendsen and Tora Berger. The latter even made history by being the first
athletes winning a medal in each of the six competitions. With four gold and
two silver medals Tora Berger will surely be voted athlete of the year in
Norway – again! Emil Hegle Svendsen has won 5 medals in total as well as the
French Martin Fourcade. With Ukraine in third place of the medal count, this is
surely an unexpected picture:

The 46th Biathlon World Championships
have been a great tournament not only for the Norwegians but also for “minor”
biathlon nations such as Poland and Ukraine as well as the host nation of the
Czech Republic. With more than 200,000 fans over the 8 racing days this sport
event has been called a full success by IBU president Anders Besseberg.
